El Hierro is a “Biosphere Reserve” and you can see that. As I headed towards La Restinga harbour to go sailing with David Pabón, one of the people responsible for fishing, I had no clue what was coming.
Serenity came over me when we reached the area called “Mar de Las Calmas” (sea of calm) and I understood the philosophy of life that David was talking about, lived from the sea. I also discovered that, in this government-protected area, selective fishing is allowed in order to help the balance of its marine ecosystem.
At that moment, I felt like I was surrounded by the purest life, in nature with only the sound of the wind. I was really lucky to discover it with David and in the little fishing boat we went in, in the purest El Hierro style.
